Olympics drama from the Nigerian sports House of Shame.

   As a student, I was not sharp in mathematics. I solved the ones I could, and left the rest to the teachers generosity with marks in helping a student be successful in school.  Point is I believed there were roles to be played; mine and the teachers'.
It is widely claimed in the Nigerian sport circles that Olympic bound athletes will fund themselves to Rio. Yes you heard correctly. After training hard, going through qualifiers and all, they are expected to fund themselves to the games.
Sports administration in Nigeria is like magic. The more you look the less you see.

   Olympics is the grandfather of sporting events. Every athlete want to be a participant. Little wonder you find high flying footballers lobbying for the over aged slots in their men's footbal teams. They understand the place of Olympics. Participation alone is seen as a crown. Winning a medal is the climax of it. Aside ensuring a lofty place in the books for the athelete, it places the person's nationality on a lofty height too. This is what the Nigerian Olympic Committee and the Sports Ministry is toying with.
   Incompetence of Nigerian sport administrators is not even a point to be debated. It has been a Given. Constant K. Over the years though,some of us have come up with false hopes. Again, these politicians have proved with so much brilliance, their incompetence. How on earth will athletes be asked to fund themselves to the games? Are we even okay to mull over that idea? How do these administrators sleep at night? They fly first class to stupid events all over the country and globe, then expect athletes to go begging for money to pay their way to Rio. These guys are impossible. One kitchen statement from the sports ministry emerged to refute the 'rumour'. This is after reputable Nigerian athletes started a campaign to source for funds to enable them be in Rio. Between the Nigerian Sports Ministry and those athletes we know whom to believe. A foetus, or even an unfertilizrd egg know whom to believe his side of the story. These are same athletes that will be castigated for non performance. Please people, let us cheer them on at the games because they have already been set up to fail. I do not know how they will get to Rio. Maybe the Sports Minister and Ministry expect them to swim from Nkisi or Bar beach to the Americas. Since time Imo River, the Sports ministry in Nigeria have been Proudly Shameless; always using their reggae to spoil our blues. Their present action though, is a record breaker. An Act,  conceived under the influence of fermented palm wine. Shameless.
   Until Sports stop being a bed rock for political games; different federations are tasked to get their own sponsorships; incompetent people are stayed from the Ministry and round pegs are put in round holes, sports in Nigeria will keep screaming shokolobangoshe.
