Argentina beaten blue and white by Nigeria's Super Eagles.

For many Nigerians, the nation won the World Cup yesterday after beating Argentina 4 - 2 in an international friendly played in Russia. Those with that mentality have every right to. It was a thing of pride to cheer your nation on to victory against Argentina. The comedy point for me was Iwobi's kolo on Javier Masherano for the last goal of the game. I haven't ceased to wonder what escaped his lips as he humbly accepted the nutmeg. Trust me, something always escape the lips of the collector. In most cases it's ewo! I will ask Masch for confirmation.

Prior to the game no one gave the Eagles a chance. Maybe even the players didn't give themselves any chance too as was evident in the early minutes. The Argentines pinged the ball around the field to happy cheers from the crowd. Akpeyi's blunder for the first goal showed the anxiety in him. For the second, he was rooted like a statue instead of charging put and therefore narrow the space available to the rampaging Argies. In a matter of minutes, Eva Banega and Kun Aguero had struck.

Ndidi Wilfred marked every thing and every body in his area. What he doesn't have in distribution he makes up in presence and strong work ethics. With Mikel acting as the stabilizer, Ogu tried to push the game forward. By the time Iheanacho scored, a flicker of hope came in.

The Super Eagles came into the second half with so much zeal. If half of the determination was shown in the first half Nigeria wouldn't be two goals down at any point. Iwobi tore at the Argentine defence like they were on his pay roll. Iheanacho played the game of his life so far in an Eagles shirt yesterday. With the entrance of Ado Den Haag's Tyron Ebuehi, Amka Perm's Brian Idowu and Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho into the game, more fluidity was observed. Ebuehi and Idowu ran opposite flanks and took command of events within the toll gates they set up. That eased the job on Ndidi and Mikel and the latter took proper command of proceedings.

Meanwhile methinks Iwobi is aggrieved with Mascherano over something. He never failed to face Masch whenever he had the ball. Even while confronted by another defender he seemed to always look for the Barcelona star and charge towards him like he was thinking na me and you today!

From the game, one can say that Akpeyi may have lost both the first and second spot goalkeeper places to Ezenwa and Uzoho. It may be early days but his jittery nature in front of the post in now a constant. We still don't have two sure strikers. Ighalo is about the only striker guaranteed a place in Russia barring injury. In the light of the victory against Argentina, congratulations Nigeria on winning the 2017 World Cup. Lol

Haters will say that we won because Messi did not play. Did Victor Moses play for Nigeria?
Congrats o jare! For the first time in a while every Nigerian is satisfied with the outcome of a Super Eagles game. We are licking the moment. In peace too!

  1. Wow! Great display by the Eagles. They really have what it takes to own the tournament if only they can see themselves as winners and face any team with that mindset. Congratulations and more power to the Super Eagles!!!
