Dear Super Eagles, help the mental and physical health of Nigerians.
I know a handful of football crazy Nigerians who have not watched the Super Eagles play over the years. The decision to avoid Eagles' games wasn't taken in isolation. No one tells a woman whose skirts were blown up by the wind in the market place that trousers are an abomination for women. For them, necessary measures were put in place to keep the heart beating and blood flowing the way it should.
It's a good thing Nigeria qualified for the world cup. The nation now look forward to the biggest football fiesta, come June 2018. The qualifiers however, saw an inconsistent side. The Super Eagles played their best games against Cameroun, home and away. Nigerians looked forward to same spirit in the seal game against Zambia in Uyo but it wasn't so. It was a far cry from the previous games against Cameroun. Iwobi scored and we landed in Russia.
Having qualified, Rohr should raise his team. The tumbom tumbom should end. Against Algeria it was a cut and join game. There was no fluidity in the game. One could say that the absence of notables like Mikel, Moses, Ighalo etc had an impact on the game but then a team is as good as it's bench. In the absence of the notables, the team should give a solid account. Individually the players are good. As a team evaporation occurs. Each department of the game should have a high level of rhythm injected in it.
Every game must not be won, but as is the case with football, fans should get good value for their resources. Rigidity should be expelled from the team. That element of surprise that win games most often should be seen. Let their be times the fans go Oh wow.... in awe when watching Eagles play and not hold their heads in pain at every turn of the game.
The World Cup offer the biggest football stage. Players and Managers are expected to be at their very best. Nigeria shouldn't be any different. The human resources are available. Forging them into a team will ensure the nation doesn't go to Russia to make up the numbers.
