Horrible, terrible, purrible 'United' display.

One of the most shambolic displays you will see from a top European club was shown by Manchester United against Sevilla at the Theatre of Dreams on Tuesday night. Under a military regime, no side will escape corporal punishment for the kind of display shown by the Old Trafford outfit on the night.

The present United squad must come to terms with the fact that fans will keep comparing them with Fergie teams. You don't expect fans who are used to seeing their team fight for them applaud the tepid nature of the present squad.  No consistent sense of urgency, hunger or inspiration. Even the highly celebrated arrival of Alexis Sanchez is yet to germinate talk more of bearing fruits.

While many rightly blame Pogba for his nonchalance in some games, I choose to knock on José's door. The Portugese seem to always wait for opponents to score first before coming up with something meaningful. Coming on the heels of a fair performance against Chelsea and Liverpool, one wonders why he chose to approach Sevilla timidly. United truly didn't deserve to progress ahead of the Spanish side. The goals by Ben Yedder took long in coming but came as no surprise.

United need a reality check. If they are to remain a force then they better do so quickly. Arsenal and Liverpool fans never imagined they will ever be in the pisition they find themselves today. It may just be a matter of time before Old Trafford faithfuls turn on the club's hierarchy.

  1. Could it be Man U saw Sevilla as a walkover and approached the game like it was a day off?
The team is gradually losing its pride of place among teams to contend with; one can only hope they piece themselves back into an enviable form real soon.
