Caveat: this article is in no way a means of taking sides in the eternal debate on who is the best footballer in the world between Cristiano and Messi. A chip though; I enjoyed myself watching Zidane and Ronaldinho than I do watching Messi and Cristiano. That is however not taking away the footballing prowess of the latter two. The debate on who is the best between Messi and Ronaldo will never end. It's everlasting. If there is one thing I have learnt in football it is that nothing is new. Messi makes you remember Maradona and Ronaldo readily brings Roberto Baggio to mind.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the man of the moment. Eight goals in his last three Champions League matches is no bean cake. Scoring five goals over two legs against Bayern Munich is no child's play. Man is full of grace. The way he leaves his markers for dead is simply amazing. Cristiano believes in himself. This is seen in how he takes on multiple players. Sometimes he comes out successful. Other times he fails. Most often than not, he comes out butchered. Then a free kick presents itself to him just outside the penalty area. He takes the kick and scores. Man is amazing!
He is a man for the big occasion. Remember the Champions League game against Porto when he was still in Manchester United? His forty yard cracker remains a headliner.
Two managers who worked with him, Fergie and Carlito, have been consistent with their claim that his success is down to hard work and commitment. Fergie said he put in extra hours after training during his days in United.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a man full of grace. If Real Madrid will win the UEFA Champions League this year, a lot will depend on Cristiano. He is a terrific footballer. A wonder. One can decide to argue this till forever but it won't remove a pin from the fact that he is a man on fire.
On the Messi/ Cristiano saga, I can't wait for the two to retire from the game so that things return to normal.
